NALA Trolley

Five casters carry the weight, one at each corner plus an extra wheel tucked under the drawer, which spreads the load and keeps it steady even when the drawer is packed with heavy A4 books. Stand it on a flat floor and keep the heaviest items in the bottom drawer so the centre of gravity stays down.

The NALA Trolley is a rolling storage piece that works as a mobile kids bookcase and toy station in one. An open upper shelf keeps books and larger toys on show, while a deep bottom drawer hides the rest. It stands 540 mm tall and rolls on five casters, so your child can wheel it to wherever the mess happens to be.

It works from around 18 months, once a toddler can pull the drawer and reach the shelf, right through the early school years. At 540 mm tall and 400 mm square, it takes up little floor, so it settles into a bedroom, playroom or classroom corner without crowding the room.

The bottom drawer is 185 mm deep, so it swallows A4 picture books, puzzles and art supplies out of sight. The open shelf above keeps favourites and bigger toys close at your child's height. Together the two levels sort what stays on display from what is better tucked away.

Packing away turns into a quick job when the storage comes to the mess rather than the other way round. Your child wheels the trolley to the play area, drops toys into the drawer and books onto the shelf, then parks it against the wall. Because everything sits at their height, they can do it without help.

Both side panels are drilled as pegboards, and the trolley comes with removable wooden pegs you slot in wherever suits. Children hang drawstring bags, cups, hats or small toys on them, which frees up the shelf and drawer for books. Move the pegs around as what your child wants to hang changes.

It is built from solid rubberwood and finished with a clear, non-toxic varnish, so it stands up to daily knocks and years of play. To clean it, wipe the wood with a soft cloth lightly dampened with water, then dry it straight away. Keep alcohol-based cleaners and harsh chemicals off the finish.

Yes. The trolley arrives flat-packed with the fittings and casters supplied, and an adult puts it together at home. The panels, shelf and drawer bolt into a solid frame, and once the wheels are on it weighs around 13 kg. Keep the drawer runners clean so it keeps gliding smoothly.
